List comparison
Compare Followers and Following Lists
Take the official export you already own, and see exactly how your followers and following lists relate. Three groups, one honest comparison — run privately in your browser.
A free account includes 100 credits. A current analysis costs 10 credits (20 for a historical comparison); saving the report is included, and CSV export is always free. No platform password ever.

How Comparing Two Lists Works
Every platform lets you download an official export of your relationship data. That export contains two lists: the accounts that appear to follow you, and the accounts you appear to follow. Comparing them is set arithmetic — nothing more, nothing mysterious.
mutuals = followers ∩ following · doesn't follow back = following − followers · fans = followers − followingA simple example makes the idea concrete:
Illustrative example — not real user data.
Your following
- Alice
- Bob
- Charlie
- Dina
Your followers
- Alice
- Charlie
- Eva
The comparison
- Mutuals: Alice, Charlie
- Don't follow back: Bob, Dina
- Fans: Eva
In the analyzer this is the current-analysis mode: upload one export, pick the platform, and the three groups are calculated on your device before any result is shown.
02
What the Three Groups Mean
Mutuals
Accounts present in both lists. They appear to follow you and you appear to follow them — the two-way relationships.
Doesn't follow you back
Accounts in your following list that are not present in your follower list. It says nothing about why — they may simply never have followed back.
Fans
Accounts in your follower list that you don't appear to follow back — your audience that you haven't returned.
The comparison describes the data you supplied at one point in time. It does not claim to know anyone's intentions: an account that doesn't follow you back may have never followed you, stopped following you, or been unavailable when the export was made.
03
Get the Official Export for Your Platform
Each platform offers its own download of your data — request it inside the platform's own settings, where you are already signed in. Follower Change only compares what the export genuinely contains:
- Instagram, Threads, Facebook, TikTok, X: download your information (Meta Accounts Center for Instagram, Threads, and Facebook) and use the followers and following files. Instagram, Threads, and Facebook also support comparing two snapshots from different dates.
- YouTube: the export covers your subscriptions, so the analyzer runs a subscriptions audit — there is no subscriber list to compare.
- LinkedIn: the export covers your connections, so the analyzer runs a connections audit — not a follower comparison.
Prefer JSON or CSV where the platform offers a choice; keep the original file structure intact. A broken or empty file never reaches the analysis step — it is rejected before anything is charged.
04
Comparing Two Snapshots Over Time
A second comparison mode uses the same two-list logic on two exports from different dates. Accounts present in the earlier follower snapshot but absent in the later one are reported as lost followers; accounts new in the later snapshot are reported as new followers.
lostFollowers = earlierFollowers − laterFollowers · newFollowers = laterFollowers − earlierFollowersThe careful wording is deliberate: the data shows that an account may no longer be following you — it does not establish when it left, why it left, or that it intentionally unfollowed. Exports record no timestamps for individual follows, so an exact unfollow date cannot be recovered from them. For the full explanation, read follower history.
05
What a List Comparison Cannot Tell You
A comparison is an honest, limited tool. It cannot establish:
- the exact time a follower change happened
- the reason an account disappeared from a list
- whether an account intentionally unfollowed
- whether an account was temporarily unavailable
- anything about accounts outside your own export
Any tool that claims to name exactly who unfollowed you and when — from a single comparison — is inventing information the data doesn't contain. Follower Change is a comparison tool for data you own, not a window into anyone else's activity.
06
Private by Design, Honest About the Cost
The analyzer runs entirely in your browser: your files are never uploaded for analysis, and your social-media passwords, two-factor codes, and session cookies are never asked for and never needed. Running an analysis requires a free account so the comparison can be billed fairly: creating an account is free and includes 100 credits — enough for 10 current analyses. A current analysis costs 10 credits; a historical comparison costs 20. Saving the report is included in that price, and CSV export is always free.
No passwords. No scraping. No accounts created on your behalf. The result lists are yours — download them, keep them, or delete them.
Comparing Followers and Following: Questions
Do I need two lists to compare?
Yes. A list comparison needs your current followers list and your current following list — two lists, but only one snapshot of each. Both come from the same official data export you download from the platform.
Does comparing followers and following work for TikTok and Threads?
Yes. Follower Change compares lists from Instagram, Threads, TikTok, X, and Facebook, and runs subscription and connections audits for YouTube and LinkedIn. Each platform is compared only as far as its official export genuinely allows.
Will comparing my lists tell me exactly who unfollowed me and when?
A single comparison shows who is present in one list and absent in the other — not when the change happened. Finding who may have unfollowed requires comparing two follower snapshots from different dates. Exports do not record timestamps for follows, and an account's absence never proves why it left or that it intentionally unfollowed.
Is comparing my followers and following free?
Creating an account is free and includes 100 credits — enough for 10 current analyses. Running an analysis costs 10 credits (20 for a historical comparison); saving the report is included in that price. CSV export is always free.
Do I need my social media password?
No. You download the official data export from the platform yourself and upload the file to Follower Change. Your password, two-factor codes, session cookies, and access tokens are never asked for and never needed.
What happens to my data files?
The comparison runs entirely in your browser on your own device. Your files are never uploaded for analysis; the only network activity is the credit debit when a signed-in analysis runs, and it carries only the platform and analysis type — never your lists, usernames, or file contents.
Can I export the comparison results?
Yes. Every result list — mutuals, accounts that don't follow you back, and fans — can be downloaded as a CSV file. CSV export is always free.
